Epic Games CEO Calls Gacha Similar to Las Vegas Gambling System

According to CEO Tim Sweeney, the gacha system will not appear in the Epic Games project any time soon. In his speech at the DICE 2022 Summit held in Las Vegas, he considered that the gacha system in the game is almost similar to the gambling system in Las Vegas. Iya added that the gacha system itself was considered hostile to gamers and should no longer be enforced in modern video games.

“We have to ask ourselves, as an industry, what we want to be when we grow up. Do we want to be like Las Vegas, with slot machines, or do we want to be widely respected as creators of products our customers can trust? I think we’re going to see more and more publishers move away from the loot box,” he said.

Sweeney added that the in-game pay-to-win system didn’t suit him either.

According to Sweeny, Epic is currently focusing on providing cross-play services for Fortnite. This strategy is believed to be able to get more players in the future.
