Steam Breaks a New Record for Numbers of 32 Million Players

Digital PC gaming platform Steam set a record for the most number of players, breaking the previous record set earlier this year.

Steam managed to set a record with almost 32 million players on its platform at the same time over the weekend, up to 31,349,780 players to be precise.

Reporting from News.com.au, Tuesday (29/11/2022), this number includes players who are not active, players who log into Steam and are active on PC but do not play games through the platform, and around 10 million players are reported to be actively playing games Steam.

Steam is the number one gaming platform on Windows PCs, with over one million accounts and over 120 million monthly active users.

The platform, hosts more than 50,000 games, with dozens added daily, from small indie games to high-budget AAA games from major publishers.

The previous record of 30,049,264 players was set in October, and before that the record of under 30 million players was set in March.

During the Covid-19 pandemic these past two years, the numbers have increased overall with more people being active on their PCs, whether due to working from home, investing in PC gaming during the pandemic, or simply having more time to play PC games.

The most-played games over the weekend included CS:GO, Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds and the recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which amassed over 373,000 players.

While those numbers don't seem like much when considering the nearly 10 million active players on the platform, considering the game is also available through Activision's own launcher, it's likely that the number is much higher overall.

It is highly likely that the record will be broken once again during the holidays, as more gamers have free time to devote to their hobbies, especially later during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

In addition, considering that Steam is also currently carrying out the Autumn Sale 2022 which provides discounts at a very tempting nominal, the records above will likely still increase again in the next few days.
