Playstation Boss Not Satisfied With Call of Duty Contract from Microsoft

With the USD 69 billion they spent to buy Activision Blizzard, it seems safe to say that at one point, Microsoft will make sure that the funds are indeed worth it.

Right now the intention is clear that they want to bring as many of the Activision Blizzard franchises as possible from Diablo, and Overwatch, to Call of Duty to increase the appeal of Game Pass.

Xbox Boss – Phil Spencer even mentioned that for this last business, they had just awarded a new contract with Playstation, something that rarely happens in the gaming industry. Who would have thought that this statement actually provoked Playstation boss - Jim Ryan to comment.

Instead of thanking Microsoft for the extra Call of Duty contract, Playstation boss Jim Ryan expressed his dissatisfaction.

In his official statement to GamesIndustry.biz which he admitted was triggered by Phil Spencer's decision to bring this matter to the public domain, Jim Ryan said he was not satisfied with this contract.

What's the article? Because the contract only adds an extra three years after the current contract, which will be completed after 3 pieces of Call of Duty games expire. This means only giving time for Sony to continue to enjoy Call of Duty for at least the next 5-6 years.

Coupled with Activision's plan to no longer release COD as an annual franchise after 2023, who knows how many series Playstation will get.

  • Playstation Boss – Jim Ryan said he was not satisfied with the Call of Duty contract from Microsoft.

Jim Ryan immediately stated that the contract was completely inadequate on many levels and did not take into account the effect it had on Playstation gamers despite the fact that the franchise has been firmly entrenched for the past 20 years.

Ryan said that he always wanted to ensure Playstation gamers had the best Call of Duty experience, something that Microsoft's new contract doesn't appreciate.

Phil Spencer himself has not yet provided any official comment regarding this scathing reply from Jim Ryan. Will Jim Ryan's statement affect the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, which is still in the acquisition process at this time? Let's just wait.
