The popularity of PUBG is indeed not as big as the last few years. This is inseparable from the emergence of other free-to-play battle royale games such as Fortnite to Call of Duty: Warzone.

Meanwhile, PUBG PC itself is still a paid game as we know it. However, there are plans that indicate that PUBG will become a free-to-play game in the future.

The news regarding this potential change came from a Twitter user named PlayerIGN. He himself is indeed one of the industry insiders who is well known for various leaks related to multiplayer games.

There is no certainty regarding this

According to PlayerIGN, some people in PUBG are eager to make the game free-to-play. However, there is still no certainty regarding this because it is quite difficult to do.

If that’s true, PUBG should be a limited free game this August to see if it’s profitable or not. From here, the PUBG team will see player feedback whether PUBG will be free-to-play forever or not.

Furthermore, PlayerIGN also said that plans for free-to-play PUBG have been around for years. They report that the game is looking to switch to this format in 2022.

But player response to the previous free-to-play period suggested that it would be a bad move for the title. Overall, it makes sense for PUBG to be free at this point.

Especially when you see the popularity of the game which has begun to be rivaled by the presence of games such as Fortnite to COD: Warzone. It is not impossible that this is the most appropriate decision to make PUBG a free-to-play game.

Regardless, we need to remind you that this is just a rumor at this point. There has been no confirmation from Krafton or PUBG Corp itself. What is your opinion about this? Give your feedback.
