Uncovering New and Unique Features of Half-Life: Alyx

After almost 13 years have passed, gamer finally able to return to adventure in the Half-Life universe through the launch of the latest game in this series. Even so, Half-Life: Alyx is not the sequel that many people have been waiting for. The story of the game takes place before Half-Life 2, and (unfortunately) it can only be accessed using virtual reality headset. This move is most likely an attempt by Valve to promote VR gaming.

Approaching the launch day of Half-Life: Alyx, the team developer published three videos gameplay new ones that show bits and pieces of the game. Although relatively short, there is a lot of important information and interesting details revealed there. Reportedly, Valve had intended to showcase these videos at The Game Awards 2022, but at the last minute, they decided to postpone it.

As trailers The premiere of Half-Life: Alyx, the three videos again demonstrate the high level of interaction between players and the world games. Games allow us to manipulate almost any object. Different from the majority of games shooter, important items are not scattered or neatly stored. Often they are hidden in containers or shelves, and we need to search them carefully to make sure we don’t miss anything.

Half-Life: Alyx is presented without a UI. Indicator health and ammo is displayed on the left glove and you can store a certain amount items on the right glove. System health traditionally served: you can only treat yourself at health station. The game lets usupgrade weapons by collecting ‘resin’, then objects/items can be picked up straight away or ‘pulled’ using gravity gloves.

Interestingly, a number of objects that seem trivial turned out to be very useful. For example: a project helmet can save lives if you accidentally get caught in a Barnacle (a long-tongued creature stuck to the ceiling of a building). The video also features the familiar foes you’ll face: Headcrabs, zombies until the Combine soldiers. In addition to gunfights, Half-Life: Alyx challenges players with a variety of puzzle.

One of the most crucial elements that Valve shows in the three videos gameplay this is the choice of navigation or movement method. Half-Life: Alyx features three system options locomotion: teleportation based, natural movement, or shift/shifts quickly. We are free to change it in the middle of the game through the menu options.

The teleportation method is suitable for those who are new to VR gaming. This option allows players to point where they want to go, then games comply immediately. Momentarily, the game will display a black screen, its purpose is to reduce disorientation. Method shift presented similar to teleportation, without black screen. We can see the shift in location directly. I personally prefer continuous movement because the navigation feels more natural.

Half-Life: Alyx is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam on March 23, 2022. In addition to the Valve Index, gamescan also be enjoyed via the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Oculus Quest and Windows Mixed Reality headset.
